Tips for looking cool Poolside

The rain has let up some in Central Florida and I am so excited to get my Summer tan on poolside. There are 3 different community pools in our area, each providing a different kind of relaxation and vibe. For Memorial Day weekend, my family and I went down to the pool closest to town. Being that we do walk to the pool, I wanted to make sure I looked cool enough to walk through town, but not overly done for the pool.

Looking cool poolside is all about ease, you want to wear the minimal amount necessary and get the most from your outfit.

  1. Find a cooler bag that’s as cute as a purse. With enough room for your towels and tanning oil, getting a cute cooler bag ensures you can also tote some beverages down to the pool too, and if you bring lipstick with you it won’t melt! <3 Here are some of my personal fav cooler bags:

2. A great pair of flip flops.  I personally haven’t cared too much for flip flops in the past, but when I found these Valentino dupes at Target for just $20 I knew they’d make a great addition to my summer wardrobe. Getting a simple slip-on sandal is a great option to throw on with any outfit during the Summer months. I love how the studs on these kind of edge up any outfit, and don’t seem so basic.

3. Keep your skin refreshed. Being in the sun can really dry out your skin, so keep it hydrated on days when you plan on spending a day soaking up rays.  I love using Evian Mineral Spray to quickly refresh my skin when I feel myself getting too hot outside.

4. Tunic is Life. Tunic’s are so great and versatile for summer. Pair them with a great espadrille wedge and you’re ready for any brunch life throws at you. Throw them over a bathing suit with some flip-flops, ta-da! you’ve made an adorable poolside look! Tunics like this never go out of style, they’ll last for years to come. I got mine at J.Crew about 2 years ago, but I’ve linked similar options in great price ranges, all under $50!

>5. Stay Confident. Look I’m guilty of wishing I had someone else’s body from time to time too. Especially when I’m in an “all my skin is showing” poolside type of situation, which is why I be sure when I hit up the pool I feel confident. I purchase swimsuits that make me feel good about myself, and make sure the smile on my face doesn’t fade, and I think that’s genuinely how to stay the coolest this Summer while you’re at the pool. Some of my favorite suits have been the high waisted bikini’s. They make me feel sexy and confident with the amazing coverage they provide.

I’ll be following this dress code a lot more these next few months. We’ve got a LOT of beach trips planned for Summer 2017! What about you?

Casual Kicks

Ever notice how shoes can just completely change up an outfit? I’ve recently gotten super into sneakers, and let me tell you, my casual side is really enjoying these comfy kicks. Sneakers are no longer just for a sporty look. Summer’s trend of white leather sneakers means you can look adorable in a day dress, and stay comfortable walking!

I found these perforated white leather Sam Edelman sneakers on such a good sale at TJ Maxx I had to get them! They go really well with sundresses, skirts, and jean outfits, so I’ve definitely gotten my money’s worth out of them.

I love how easy this sporty summer look was to put together! I got this grey and white striped tee from Target and love how laid back and comfy it is. To polish the look up a bit, I tucked the tee into a slate blue high waist skirt from LOFT. I basically wear my gold arrowhead necklace everyday of my life, because it’s just that piece that I love to wear all the time, so adding it as the finishing touch to this ensemble seemed appropriate.

The Sam Edelman kicks were the perfect way to run out the door looking cute & casual. This is a perfect outfit for a daytime shopping trip or errands run. Making sure you look put together enough to walk into Target, but cool enough that you “don’t really care”. TJ Maxx isn’t the only place to score some major great white sneak ideas for Summer though! Check out my outfit details and some other really adorable white kicks options below!

Maxi-mum Summer

You know what I’ve been avoiding?! Maxi dresses. I’m like, 4’10” and that’s being generous, so since Midi dresses hit the scene, I’ve forgotten all about it’s longer, older sister. Maxi dresses are so awesome during the summer months, because they give you a comfortable breathable look, while still maintaining your chic-ness.

I found this maxi dress through a fellow fashion Blogger, Blair Driscoll of Rose Gold Outlook. She wore it for Easter and it was so adorable. I love how she styled it in a super dressy way on her blog, but when I saw the vibrant colors I thought it would be so perfect to not only dress up, but also dress down with a more boho vibe.

I wore it out to lunch with the family on a lazy Sunday afternoon before heading to hang at my Grandmother’s house for a while. It was the perfect laid back outfit that still looked cute enough for pictures after stuffing myself with all the carbs.

I love the tassel tie detail, and the slit in the front gives it the most perfect amount of movement. This dress is so flattering and so versatile. So keep it a little more chill, I wore my simple gold arrowhead necklace, bangles, and the easiest blush lace-up sandals.

According to my measurements I was right in-between sizes, and so I went with the larger of the two, so the dress was actually a little big to start with. However, I washed and dried it in my dryer and it shrank to the perfect size/length miraculously. If you’re not a risk taker like me though, I suggest going with the smaller size if you’re in-between like I was. <3

(couldn’t link exact one in widget so here are some of my favs, you can find the exact one in the 2nd paragraph link)

Lovely Lavender

I’m going to be 100% honest. I have never liked the color Purple, no I’m not talking about the amazing Oprah movie either, I’m talking about the physical color. I’ve used a ton of plum eye liners and shadows to make my green eyes pop. But I’ve never owned an article of clothing in this shade because, well, I hate it. Until now. I found this lavender dress at Forever 21 and it fits SO well!

The shade is just the right amount of pastel mixed with vibrancy to it’s not so springy, and just right for the spring/summer transition. The dress hangs so naturally lightly off the shoulders, which is great for me because with most of my OTS pieces I do end up fighting to keep the arms in place for a good portion of the day.

Not with this dress though! For a lunch out with my mom, brother, and Cash, I dress it a little more laid back with bush perforated lace-up flats. It came with this amazing little fabric belt to cinch in my waist for a really flattering fit.

Accessory wise, I wore some great white beaded dangles, making the look a little more elevated with curls in my hair for the nicer restuarant we were dining at. I also threw on my 3 Bourbon & Bowties bracelets, because they just look great with everything, and the “State of Mind” Kate Spade pendant I haven’t taken off since Mother’s Day.

I love that this dress has a great amout of versatility. To dress it up a little more for a brunch out, I’d pair this exact look with wedges instead. To dress it down for running errands or just getting out of the house for a coffee run, I’d simply throw on a denim jacket, some white sneakers, and a messy bun.

This dress definitely opened my eyes to the gorgeousness that is the color purple, and how great it looks on every skin tone. PS- it totally did make my green eyes POP! <3

Summer Midi

I’ve found that one of the most flattering sundress styles is the midi length sundress. It’s such a perfect length for Summer, and if you select your midi in a lightweight fabric, the dress actually keeps you super cool.

Since I’m short, I always like to pair my midi sundresses with an open toed shoe to elongate my legs. I feel this style actually gives me a lot of length and like an optical illusion, makes me look so much taller than my 4’10” frame.

I paired this amazing baby blue cotton sundress from the Loft Outlet (ps it has pockets!!!) with my go-to Spring/Summer Marc Fisher espadrilles. Wearing a tan shoe also helps to make your legs look leaner and longer, and heels always give you the best posture, so I love how flattering (and easy to walk in) these are.

Accessory wise I wanted to keep things simple and let the dress speak for itself. I threw on my Bourbon & Bowties bangles along with the FL Kate Spade necklace and I was done!

I’ve been carrying this Henri Bendel Crosby crossbody since James got it for me for Mother’s Day and the Sea Salt color goes with everything! It’s got a great amount of room in it for a lipgloss, cash, keys, cellphone and sunnies, so it’s the perfect size for a small bag without being toooo tiny.

What I love about this whole look is that I could easily take this outfit from day to night by added a cropped moto-jacket and dark lips.

While this actual sundress is sold out currently. I’ve linked some of my absolute FAVORITE midi sundress options for under $50 as well as the rest of my outfit details below.

Have you tried the midi length sundress yet?

Nordstrom Sale Under $250

This is the last post I’ll be doing about this year’s Nordstrom Half Yearly Sale. This post is my favorite picks under $250. My whole mantra is “Affordable Fashion with Seasonal Splurges” so this post is where you’re gunna find my picks for 2017’s best splurges.

The seasonal aspect of this comes from the fact that I pick 3-5 items to really “splurge” on each season, and by splurge I mean spend anywhere over $100 on any ONE item.

When I select an item to splurge on I look at a few different aspects of the item:
1. Long Term Wearability – is this something that will last year after year in my closet?
2. Quality of the Item – aside from the wearability which is more about style, is this item durable, made from quality products, and something that will withstand the test of time.
3. Labels – I don’t get TOO into labels when it comes to my clothing, nothing HAS to be brand name in order for me to wear it, but with that being said, when I’m splurging on something I want it to come with a great label, that’s known for it’s quality and timeless styles, and one that’s been around for years with plenty of years to come.

So without further ado- here are my splurges from the Nordstrom sale. I did things a tad different this time and separated my favs by season, because these are the “seasonal splurges” I would select.

Fall

And that’s all folks! I had a lot of fun writing this series, as sales are literally like my favorite thing ever. Let me know what you thought about it and if you’d like to see more posts like this! <3

Nordstrom Sale Picks Under $100

Last week I posted my favs from each category under $50 that are part of the amazing Nordstrom sale. Today I’ll share with you my favorite picks that are under $100 in each category. Keep in mind that in sharing these selections, you’ll see the heaviest amount of shoes, bags, and dresses.

I’m all about affordable fashion and I don’t really think a pair of pants or a top that is over $50 is a great deal, but you will see a few here and there, and that’s based on the designer. In other words, these are great deals because they are normally WELL above $200, not necessarily because they are the best sale price.

I want to start with dresses, because last week I forgot to include any dresses in the under $50 post, so here you’ll find all the dresses I love from the sale that are under $100 and some steals under $50 too!

I’m going to lump tops and bottoms into the same category this time since their lists were rather extensive in the under $50 post. Again, this is mainly on the designer aspect of the sale.

I’m going to have a good amount of picks here in shoes because while I don’t buy good shoes often, I’ve learned that investing a little money into a good pair of kicks is so much better than having a lot of cheap shoes. For starters: they last longer, they styles stay on trend throughout seasonal changes, and my more “expensive” shoes are actually the most comfortable ones to wear, so a good shoe under $100 I think is a great deal.

As far as accessories go, I don’t really care to spend over $50 for hats, scarfs, or costume jewelry. But finding a GOOD designer handbag under $100?! That’s a steal! Here’s some great bags, with amazing quality, all under a hundred bucks.

I’ll end this post with the shortest of the categories for Under $100. A combination of beauty, accessories, tech, and my favorite of all: Sunglasses!!!

Check back next week for my final post: the best designer deals under $250!

Nordstrom Sale Picks Under $50

It’s here everyone! The Nordstrom Half Yearly Sale is upon us, just in time for Memorial Day Weekend. I’ll be doing a 3 part series on the sale, dividing my favorite deals up by price points : Under $50, Under $100, and Under $250. In each post you can also expect to see the shopping experience divided into categories like tops, bottoms, dresses, shoes and accessories.

The Under $50 is probably going to be the biggest post on here for clothing, and I’ll focus more on shoes in Under $100, and great designer bags & accessories in Under $250. This is because that’s how I shop, honestly. I like to have affordable clothing, basics that last a long time, and there’s not much in my closet clothing wise that I’ve ever paid more than $50 for. I do opt for designer, but limit myself to a few nice bags a year and 1-3 pairs of new sunnies, so that I build a timeless collection.

This post is full of all my fav pieces under $50, so without further ado let’s start with TOPS:

There are so many great deals going on right now it’s hard to not just pick it all! haha Here are my selections under $50 for BOTTOMS:

SHOES:

Last but certainly not least for this Under $50 NSale Post,  ACCESSORIES:

My Mom “Uniform”

I think it’s a running joke amongst all Moms that we have a basic “uniform”. For each mom that uniform is different, some are constantly in gym clothes, yoga pants, or jeans and tee shirts, but for me, it’s ever-so-slightly different.

My mom uniform consists of 4 essential pieces that can be mixed and matched all day every day for a comfortable yet stylish look.

I start with a high-waist (preferably elastic waist too 😉 ) patterned skirt, add a fun graphic tee, top it off with a cardigan or some kind of lightweight outerwear, and finish it off with my white converse.

Easy, right? Not only is it super easy to put together, but it always looks casually cute and laid back, and not to mention that it’s such a comfortable look! I can easily run after the boys, go on a Target run, and then cook dinner later on, without feeling like I need to change my clothes.

Everything is always machine washable so I’m not fretting about getting anything “dirty” if the boys and I decide to break out the arts and crafts either!

Two of my go-to skirts for my uniform are a navy and white polka dot skirt, and a black bright floral patterned wrap skirt. My favorite tee is hands down McConaughey, because well, McConaughey (que the alright alright alright here).

What’s your “Mom Uniform”?

Disney Style- Pt. 1

James and I recently got Disney annual passes. I love Disney and it’s such a fun time with the kids. Living in Celebration we’re only about a 5 minute drive from the parks, so I plan to go A LOT. However, unlike many tourists, I love to dress up for Disney. There’s a ton of photo ops, and happy people on vacation always around and willing to snap a few pics for you.

disney attire

When I dress for the park I want to look like “Disney Cute”. Since I haven’t gone a ton yet, this post is about my first outfit the day we got our passes, but there will be plenty more Disney Style posts to come in the near future.

For this day in the park I chose to wear denim, this helps prevent my legs from chafing while walking all day in the park. My black distressed skinny jeans are always a go-to, because of the amount of stretchy comfort they provide.

I paired them with an adorable cream blouse that featured large black polka dots from The Loft Outlet. It was such a steal at only $30, but unfortunately Loft Outlet things aren’t available online, so I’ve linked some similar ones at the bottom of this post for those interested. The polka dots are very very classic Disney, so of course I bought myself a pink sequined pair of Minnie Mouse ears to top the whole look off!

disney style

Lastly, shoes matter so much when walking through Disney all day. A typical 4-5 hour day at Disney will be around 15k-20k steps, so shoes that don’t make you blister are crucial. That’s why I love my white converse! They are comfy AF, no blisters anywhere, and they pair well with just about any and every outfit.

Since I wasn’t with the kids, I used a crossbody bag, just big enough to carry my cards, phone, and lip balm. This was so easy to carry all day, without the extra weight of a huge bag.

Do you dress up for Disney? What do you typically wear to the park?
