I’ll admit, to me after I hit about 21 I thought for my chosen career path (fashion enthusiast/fashion retail management) a college degree had no value. I mean, basically the industry hires based on experience alone, and once your working to get the experience in it’s damn near impossible to fit school in with a full-time position, so I picked work over school, and to be honest I truly never regret it.
However, being home with Cash all day, binge watching Nip/Tuck or whatever series I haven’t already finished on Netflix, has made me feel especially stupid. Sure I blog, and keep up most of my writing skills, I add and subtract money when budgeting bills/groceries/how many clothes I can buy for the month, and it takes a certain amount of chemistry to bake, but I’m not LEARNING anything, and if I’m not learning anything HOW can I be IMPROVING?
Hence, I’ve decided to go back to school, like I said, to me a degree isn’t the main objective because it’s not that big of a deal to me, but I do want to start learning things. Like how to really sew so I can do more DIY clothing projects on the blog, learning more about website design so that I can truly understand what I’m doing with SEO, Analytics, graphics, etc…as opposed to just watching and mimicking YouTube tutorials with no clue why I’m going through these motions. I find this a positive change not only for myself, but for my family as well, since I’ll feel happier with more of a sense of direction while going back to school!Today I went to my orientation, got my financial aide in order, and will be finished registering for classes on Monday!! Such a great feeling getting this stuff done! Plus going back to school will give me a reason to dress fashionably every day!!!
I felt super chic today while at orientation in basic skinnys, a red tee shirt, tan wedges and a leopard scarf!
