I’ve always had a bit of an obsession with plaid. Call me Scottish- which I am- but there’s just something about the different criss-crossed patterns of fun and different colors together that just really speaks to me. However, I’ve never really cared too much for how a basic plaid button down looks on my body without jazzing it up a bit.
When I found this adorable plaid top at Target It had to be mine. The sleeves fit so much more feminine than a regular flannel and the ruffle detail at the top makes it all the more fun and flirty. This specific top comes in blue and a mauve/gray combo. While both would have looked amazing with this fuchsia skirt, I like how unexpected the blue is. Adding a pop of heavy contrast matches just as well as getting something the exact same color- for all you “matchy-matchy” ladies out there who want to start mixing things up a bit.
Speaking of the fuchsia skirt, I got it on super sale for $6 at Target online, and I LOVE it! It’s got these amazing pockets and a really durable poly material, and a very flattering elastic waistband, so for me – a person with wider hips and a smaller waist- it’s SUCH a flattering fit. Unfortunately this exact one is no longer available because it was only $6, but I’ve put together a small collection of my favorite Skater skirts in similar fits for you below!
I finished this look off with some amazing cream block heel booties which I managed to snag for 50% off at Old Navy making them only about $20 and worth every cent even had I paid full price. They are a faux suede which makes them a lot easier to clean, and since that white go-go boot trend hit this winter, they keep you trendy but within reason if you’re just getting into making bolder purchases.
One of my favorite aspects of this outfit was the bag, this Kate Spade Pebbled leather in dark gray really goes with EVERYTHING, and I love that it can we worn as either a clutch or a cross body. While I like to save everywhere else, my bags and sunglasses I will splurge on because I use them the most. If you don’t have a gray bag for the coming season I definitely recommend this one!
Finally, my last finishing touch, was these amazing tassel Sugarfix earrings. I legit wear these about 4 times a week. The white tassel makes them really versatile, and they remind me so much of Audrey Hepburn’s earplugs in Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
