Birthday Chip Frapp

This post was sponsored in part by Social Spotters on behalf of Shamrock Farms, all opinions are my own.

With Brando’s 1st birthday party quickly approaching I wanted to pick a theme that matched what he’s in love with. After a lot of deliberation we decided to have a “This Little Piggy” foodie themed birthday. So basically, we skip out on all the kitschy party decor, and go straight to what matters most: good food. While Brando won’t be partaking in this beverage, I wanted to create a non-alcholoic foodie friendly beverage for the party. This is an adults-only drink because of the amount of caffeine in it, but it’s so fun and festive for his birthday party.

Coffee drinks are my jamm, and I’ve literally only met like 3 adults in my life who didn’t LOVE a good coffee beverage, so this idea seemed perfect to match the foodie theme, and be a fun treat for our party people.

This recipe makes 4 drinks so adjust for the amount of party-goers if you’re preparing ahead of time.

What You’ll Need:

2 cups of ice

1- 12 oz bottle of Shamrock Farms Cold Brew Coffee & Milk

1/2 tsp vanilla extract

1/4 cup heavy whipping cream

1/4 cup mini chocolate chips

2 tbsp rainbow sprinkles

How to make it:

  1. Fill blender with 2 cups of ice.
  2. Add all ingredients to blender- save 1 tbsp rainbow sprinkles for garnish
  3. Pulse blender until ice is good and blended, then hit “smoothie” setting for 30 seconds.
  4. Pour into glass and top with leftover sprinkles.
  5. ENJOY!

This was such a delicious treat to kick start my mid-week slump, and it will be such a delicious treat for our baby boy’s party guests! Combining all of our favorite flavors (coffee, birthday cake, and chocolate) made for one spectacular concoction.

Cold-Brewed Coffee At Home

This family runs on coffee. While I am pregnant and only consume about one cup a day, my husband will clear the rest of the pot before 10am, and sometimes we’ll enjoy a cup for dessert as well. While piping hot cup of coffee is something I can enjoy when it’s a little chillier, hot beverages in general are difficult for me to enjoy when it’s 87 degrees outside. While I have tried brewing coffee and pouring it over ice with cream, the ice melts leaving you with watered down flavored coffee water, which is not my jam, so I decided to try cold-brewing coffee at home. I was pleasantly surprised to learn it was an easy task and worked perfectly! Here’s how simple it is:

  1. Scoop 4-5 tablespoons of ground coffee into the bottom of your French Press, then fill the remainder up with water.
  2. Set French Press in fridge for 12-24 hours, the longer it sets, the richer & bolder the coffee flavor becomes.

That’s it! That’s all you have to do to brew some delicious cold brew at home for those days you can’t stomach the idea of a hot cup o’joe.

I finished off my cold brew with half of a teaspoon of vanilla extract, 1/4 cup half&half, and poured it all over ice. It stayed cool and non-watery all morning and was a great refreshing way to start the day, and kick Monday’s butt!

Have you tried cold-brewing coffee? What’s your favorite way to enjoy coffee in the morning?

Wake-Up Your Mornings- Eye Brightening 101

I received NYC Big Bold eyeliner & mascara complimentary for review purposes from, the opinions stated are honest, unbiased and provided without compensation.

As a mom, when it comes to waking up in the morning and getting the day started, my philosophy is more along the lines of “fake it til you make it”. I get out of bed reluctantly, grab cash, get coffee started before I change him and make his breakfast, and sip on that while he enjoys his eggs. Now I’m not complaining about the awesome moments I get to share with my baby boy every single morning, I know that I’m truly blessed. However, there is not at one point in that entire morning routine where I don’t feel sleepy and foggy.

I wanted to change that so I started setting an alarm for myself. While Cash typically wakes up between 8:30-9am, I set my alarm for 8, giving me some “me time” before he wakes up each morning. I figured if I had to “fake it til I make” then the best way to fake being a functioning person would be to make myself actually look like one! That’s when I found a quick routine that has totally changed my mornings and makes me feel like I can conquer the world each day! While it does involve coffee, the biggest way I’ve found that wakes me up is making my face look awake!

ALMOST awake after concealer and foundation!
ALMOST awake after concealer and foundation!

As soon as I wake up now I start a 10 minute morning face routine that has totally rejuvenated my mornings! I think spending just a little time on yourself each day is so important, and that can reflect in the way you feel about yourself for the duration of the day!

First I wash my face with an apricot scrub, and apply a small amount of Amazingly Beautiful AM Moisturizer .

Then I apply a small amount of liquid foundation to make face, and dust it off with some finishing powder. I don’t like to spend too much time on any part of my face other than my eyes, those are what makes us look really refreshed!

After that, I apply some brightening cream into the inner corner of my eyes, underneath my eyes, and under the top of each eyebrow. While you can just simply use concealer, I like to use a beige cream with pink tones and lots of shimmer to it, to really brighten the eye. Plus, since I have green eyes, the contrast with the pink makes my eye color really pop!

I dust on a fun colored bright eyeshadow

Then apply a line of NYC Big, Bold and Precise Liquid Eyeliner. This is a think exact liquid eyeliner pen, perfect for making extreme lines with little effort. I always line the lid and draw upwards at the outer crease. This opens up the eye for an extremely awesome, bold make-up statement that will add some exciting jazziness to your morning.FullSizeRender

To finish off an awesome eye brightening look, I use 3-4 coats of NYC Big, Bold Angel Lash mascara. It adds such great definition and length to your lash line! The perfect finishing touch on a wonderful easy eye opening look!

Since it is just the morning, I typically finish off my make-up routine with a simple tinted lip balm. It sounds so silly, but you won’t believe the difference it makes to come out of the bathroom in the morning and enjoy my coffee sans baby with my make-up already done! Sometimes I’m even lucky enough to have breakfast already made for Cash when he wakes up!

What would you do with some extra time in the mornings to make you feel better about your day?!

First things first… The food..

Today is my first full day day from my mini-vacation and since I have a TON to do and start working on I figured today I would start off with the easiest… The food in Mebane,NC has transformed from minimal choices and tons of fast food to incredible options of all varieties. Addie, my friend up there that I stayed with, has an amazing palate so she took me to new fabulous places downtown that really set Mebane apart from the place it was when I left.
For starters she works at this gourmet coffee shop Reed’s, and their Carmel Macchiato was out of this world.

(photo taken off their website)

My first night there we ate at Mebane Knights, a lounge type Restuarant&Bar that serves amazing cocktails, craft brews, and killer spinach and artichoke dip. My favorite thing about this place is that they actually give you blankets to snuggle up with if you want to sit outside on a chilly night! My favorite thing on the menu: the Templton Manhattan served with an Italian morello cherry. It was delicious and with the snugness of the blanket around me, it easily shook the away the evening chills.

The next day was Autumnfest and I ate slow-cooked BBQ for breakfast AND lunch. After a couple drinks the previous night, I needed something sturdy to soak up the alcohol so I could function and actually help Addie sell her fabulous Calamity Jane’s chalk style paint in her booth. (tomorrows post will go more in depth with her company’s awesomeness) The BBQ was fantastic, one sandwich was from a local, who just makes it for the festivals, it was slow-cooked for over 24 hours and was tangy yet sweet. The other sliders I enjoyed for lunch came from Dick and Jane’s, a tapas and wine bar downtown. Their BBQ sauce was made with an asian influenced zing, and while it wasn’t typical, it was still incredible! After all of our work during the day, we all treated ourselves to a fancy dinner at The Downtown Mebane Table. This place takes gourmet to a whole new level. I ordered dinner and an appetizer. I started off with a Mahi Taco, the mahi was blackened and topped with a great sauce and cabbage slaw, for my entree I ordered the Bone-In Chicken which is served with homemade mashed potatoes, and sautéed spinach. The food tasted so authentic. I cleaned my plate, and then sampled some of Addie’s amazing steak with fresh green beans. Oh that meal was on point!

(photo from their website, I cleared my plate too fast to get one)

I ended my trip with local staples, while they certainly weren’t gourmet, they were still incredible. La Cocina, is my favorite mexican restaurant of all time. I got a taco, chalupa, and mexican rice combo and finished sunday’s lunch with a fried cheesecake, which is every bit as good and terrible for you as it sounds.

My last local meal was breakfast yesterday morning. Biscuitville is a North Carolina breakfast staple. Their buttermilk biscuits are made fresh each hour, and even though it’s fast food, it’s still finger-licking good. Bacon, egg and cheese was my biscuit of choice, with scrambled eggs instead of fried eggs. That’s right you get to choose how you want your eggs there. Not only that, but we noticed a new lunch menu while we were looking at the menu and guess what your side choices are for lunch? Fried Okra or Fried Pickles. If I’d of stayed any longer I’d of come back having gained all of the weight I’ve been lost by cutting carbs back for sure!

The food on this trip was worth the vacation price tag along, but I had more memories and fun experiences that I can’t WAIT to share soon!

Biscuits and Cornbread,
